Song of Ice and Light — Original Sensory Alchemy Oil & Relief on Canvas, Arctic Glacier Painting, 50×70 cm Continuing her 2019 journey through the Norwegian glaciers, the artist encountered glacial waterfalls — veritable walls of water cascading down cliffs of ice and rock into a glacial lake. That day, her journey was rewarded with a fleeting moment she captured in sketches: the fog suddenly cleared, and a single sunbeam broke through to illuminate the majestic landscape. This experience later culminated in the painting Song of Ice and Light, which combines powerful, textured impasto with delicate, luminous layers of oil paint.
The Myth A synesthetic transformation of space. The work resonates with the epic saga of a wanderer who, after a long pilgrimage, is struck silent — standing in awe before the sublime grandeur of the northern wilderness. The monumental glacier, painted in the technique of the Old Masters, has captured and refracted a solitary sunbeam, compelling it to resonate with a green luminescence on a cold monochrome plane. This pulse of light is met by the tactile, relief-like mass of rocks, whose coarse texture serves as a physical counterweight to the delicate glazing. This work explores the phenomenon of synesthetic transformation: how the dispersion of light within ice can transfigure an entire landscape, turning it from a physical given into a space of pure vibration and heightened emotional resonance. The painting was incorporated into the artist's personal Art & Science project, Art as a Method of Cognition, presented at the St. Petersburg Planetarium in 2022 through an exhibition and a lecture complemented by scientific experiments demonstrating the properties of light, electricity, and magnetism. An exceptional acquisition for collectors drawn to the intersection of art and science, and for those who seek works that translate the sublime into the tangible.
