Dance of Light — Original Sensory Alchemy Oil & Gold Leaf on Linen, Arctic Aurora Painting, 40×80 cm A further painting from the artist's Norwegian Cycle. Here, the viewer is transported from the valleys into the mountains — into an almost cosmic space of primeval ice and glacial lakes. The ice masses have a unique blue-turquoise coloration, and the northern lights descend remarkably close, as if spilling from the sky down to the earth. In the North, this phenomenon is often called the Paths of the Spirits or the Dance of the Spirits — for the indigenous peoples of the region traditionally saw in it the trails of magical forces journeying between the earth and the heavens.
The Myth The rhythms of the northern lights, frozen in space. This painting is a synesthetic artifact where the rhythms of the aurora borealis have solidified in strokes of oil paint over gold leaf. The artist captures the energetic imprint of the phenomenon — translating a cosmic impulse into the language of matter. This painting is also musical — but its rhythm is more delicate, sharper, and more immediate, plunging the viewer directly into the space of the dancing spirits. As part of the Art as a Method of Cognition series, this work offers the chance to possess not a landscape, but the very model of perception itself — where science and magic become a single sensory experience. The painting was incorporated into the artist's personal Art & Science project, Art as a Method of Cognition, presented at the St. Petersburg Planetarium in 2022 through an exhibition and a lecture complemented by scientific experiments demonstrating the properties of light, electricity, and magnetism. An exceptional acquisition for collectors drawn to the intersection of art and science, and for those who seek works that are not merely seen — but experienced.
